Covid is real, it’s serious and plays no favorites

According to the latest report from the Government of New Brunswick, there are to date a total of 430 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our Province.

I have posted and spoken often about the need for all of us to do our part as a community when it comes to the battle against Covid-19. This means following all directives from our Chief Medical Health officer, wearing masks, physical distancing and hand hygiene. All guidelines I have followed.

We’ve seen over the last few months many families impacted across our region, province and country.

In fact, on the evening of Friday November 20, I started to experience mild symptoms of COVID-19. A cough, some stiffness, headache and a sore throat. As a precaution and proactively I immediately self isolated and registered for a Covid-19 test. The test was administered on Sunday evening and I am waiting for the results.

I will follow all directives from Public Health and my priority is the safety of my family, your families and our community as a whole.

My symptoms have not worsened, nor do I know if this isn’t just a common cold, flu or simply exhaustion. I do know that Covid-19 is to be taken very seriously and that it can have severe implications in some cases.

I will continue my duties and responsibilities as Mayor from home, until given a clear test and in full accordance with Public Health directives.

It is important that we all act in the best interest of our community, our families and ourselves. We need to be extra vigilant with public health practices — hand washing, wearing of masks both inside public spaces and outdoors, physical distancing and keeping our circle of direct contacts small made up of people in your household and few others.

From my first day as a candidate, I have shared with you openly and honestly. This update is no different and I wanted to let you know about my current circumstances.

Each and everyone of us, must take decisive actions and take responsibility for individual actions that are in the best interest of the community.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Mayor Don
